    SPARTIUM

    Commonly known as Broom

Closely related to the other brooms, Genista and Cytisus and has become invasive in Mediterranean climates where it has been introduced.

Genus of a single species of deciduous shrub occurring in dry places, open woodland and on roadsides mainly in the Mediterranean region including Portugal.

It has the ability to photosynthesise through its green shoots so does not require abundant foliage. Seeds are scattered when the pods explode.
