6th January 2021. In line with the current government lockdown rules, Burncoose Nurseries is closed to visitors. However at present we are able to offer click and collect to local customers. This will be weekdays only, not weekends. Mail order is continuing as normal. However please allow extra time for the couriers to deliver, once despatched from us. Sorry to say that some depots are experiencing high volumes of traffic, also staff shortages.

  • Evergreen
  • Semi-evergreen - Keeps some of its foliage all year, and will drop some leaves as well. - ovate to rounded, 3- to 5-lobed leaves 10-20cm (4-8in) long
  • Orange - with red veining
  • Height - 1.5m (5ft)
  • Spread - 70cm (30in)
  • Medium shrub - Typically grow to around 4-6 feet in height - produces pendent flowers
  • Half hardy - unheated greenhouse / mild winter - Hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK except in severe winters and a risk from sudden (early) frosts. May be hardy elsewhere with wall shelter or good micro-climate. Likely to be damaged or killed in cold winters. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -5°C (23°F)
  • Full sun - shelter from strong winds
  • Additional Features - Good to know - - can flower through winter in a conservatory
  • Pests & Diseases - under glass - whiteflies, red spider mites, mealybugs, scale insects.
  • Place of origin - garden origin.USA. Luen Miller, California.
  • Resistant to honey fungus - These plants have little or few problems with honey fungus.
  • Flower Shape - Bell/Lantern - - 6-8cm (2½-3in) long
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Greenhouse / conservatory - Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter - use loam-based compost (JI No. 2) and provide plenty of light

    Suitable for: Evergreen shrubs or climbers that need little to no pruning.
    Action: Trim back shoots that spoil symmetry and to fit available space.
    When: Annually after flowering if on previous year's growth, or in later Winter or Spring if flowering on current year's growth, or as requires.
