After flowering the flower stalks swell, becoming red, fleshy, sweet and edible. -
Medicinal properties
Source of quercetin, an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, used in the repair of liver damage from alcohol. -

TreeUpright then spreading tree. Produces cymes 5-7cm (2-3in) across of tiny flowers followed by black fruit to 5mm (¼in) across.
