Soil should be open enough to prevent stagnation and rot in winter. Less likely to be monocarpic (dying after first flowering) if flowering is prevented until several crowns have formed -

Place of origin
Tibet, southwestern China, Burma. Discovered by French missionary Jean Marie Delavay. First viable seed brought back to UK by Frank Kingdon-Ward (1885-1958) in 1924. -
DeciduousOblong to oval, toothed, light bluish-green leaves 15-30cm (6-12in) long, heart-shaped at the base.
