  • Deciduous - pinnate leaves to 30cm (12in) or more composed of 5-9 elliptic to oval, entire or serrated, glossy leaflets, bronze-purple when young.
  • Height - to 30m (100ft)
  • Spread - to 15m (49ft)
  • Tree - male flowers are in drooping catkins 5-10cm (2-4in) long. Produces edible nuts within spherical fruit to 5cm (2in) long.
  • Hardy - very cold winter - Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe. Plant can possibly withstand temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F)
  • Full sun - prefers a sheltered sunny spot.
