ALBIZIA julibrissin 'Ombrella'

Commonly known as Persian acacia, Silk Tree

A newish variety with cherry-pink fragrant flowers and dark green ferny leaves. Flowers profusely at a young age. Grows to only 10-15 feet

  • Deciduous - mimosa-like leaves 30-45cm (12-18in) long with many small sickle-shaped leaflets.
  • Height - 3-5m (10-15ft)
  • Spread - 3m (10ft)
  • Tall Shrub - or small tree with domed head when mature. Produces terminal clusters 7-15cm (3-6in) wide of spherical flower heads 3.5cm (1½in) across.
  • Hardy - average winter - Hardy through most of the UK apart from inland valleys, at altitude and central/northerly locations. May suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in harsh winters in cold gardens. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -10°C (14°F)

    Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
    When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
