RHODODENDRON 'Cornish Red'



RHODODENDRON HYBRIDS

The tallest growing of all the Cornish woodland rhododendrons. Can reach 60-80 feet in maturity with large trusses of reddish-purple flowers

  • Hardy - cold winter - Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations. Plant can withstand temperatures down to -15°C (5°F)
  • Full sun - shelter from strong winds
  • Partial shade
  • Additional Features - Pests & Diseases - vine weevils, scale insects, honey fungus, powdery mildew, bud blast.
  • Place of origin - possibly from 'Smithii' ( a cross between R. arboreum and R. ponticum made at Kingston-upon-Thames, later the Veitch nursery) or the same cross made at Randall's nursery, St Austell, Cornwall
  • Garden Location/Conditions - Woodland garden
  • Hardiness - Fully hardy
  • Soil Conditions - Fertile moist well-drained soil - humus-rich
  • Neutral to acid soil - ideally pH4.5 - 5.5
