      Collected from Virginia by Rev. John Banister in 1691 for Bishop of London, Henry Compton and planted at Fulham Palace.

      Aphids, gall wasps, oak wilt, honey fungus, powdery mildew, bracket fungi.

    • Deciduous
      Glossy dark green leaves to 15cm (6in) long, with deep lobes, ending in bristle-tipped teeth.

      Pale, grey-brown bark in scaly plates. Acorns ovoid to almost spherical.

      Pruning: Minimal pruning required. Prune wayward or crossing branches to maintain a healthy framework.
      When: When dormant in the late winter/early spring. Some in the summer/autumn to prevent bleeding of sap.
